Afternoon visits to Irish foodservice venues grew 2.8% year on year in Q2 2026, while morning traffic fell 3.3%. Our latest restaurant footfall data highlights why operators need to understand when customers visit, alongside which segments are attracting them.
In our recent analysis of quick service restaurant traffic in Ireland, we explored growth across categories. Looking at dayparts adds another dimension to these Irish foodservice market trends.
Afternoons Lead Daypart Traffic Growth
Across the total foodservice market, visits between 3 pm and 6 pm increased by 2.8%, the strongest daypart growth. Dinner traffic between 6 pm and 9 pm rose 1.4%, while lunchtime visits between noon and 3 pm increased just 0.4%.
Morning visits before noon declined 3.3%, and traffic after 9 pm fell 1.2%.
For operators, this raises practical questions. Does your afternoon offer give customers a reason to visit? Are promotions timed to demand? Where could weaker traffic require changes to staffing or opening hours?
Chicken and Ethnic Fast Food Gain Visits
Chicken led segment growth, with visits up 9.3%. Ethnic fast food followed at 7.7%, bakery and sandwich at 4.7%, pizza at 3.0% and burger at 2.3%.
Coffee traffic declined 0.8%, while pubs and restaurants grew 1.4%.
As we discussed in our analysis of Irish QSR store growth, 17 chains opened 26 stores during the quarter.
As I noted in Hospitality Ireland’s Autumn issue:
“The link between traffic and openings is important. In chicken and ethnic fast-food, the fastest growing traffic segments are also the categories adding the most capacity.”
New capacity can increase access and redistribute visits between nearby competitors.
Connect Traffic, Pricing and Local Competition
Our earlier article on Irish menu pricing showed why value matters across different occasions. Traffic trends should inform those pricing decisions.
I recommend comparing your own daypart performance with relevant segment and local market data before changing offers.
Meaningful Vision’s foodservice market intelligence connects customer traffic, pricing, promotions, menus and openings, supporting foodservice competitor analysis around each site.
