Distribution of Traffic Across Dayparts

Meaningful Vision’s Competitive Intelligence System offers insights into consumer traffic trends within the Republic of Ireland’s  fast- food market, analysing the top 50 chains and shops nationwide in Q1 2024.

Morning traffic accounts for approximately 15% of all daily fast-food visits. Lunch hours, from 12 to 1 pm, represent 30% of all visits, with the same share observed between 3 and 6 pm. Dinner, from 6 to 9 pm, occupies 16%, while later snacks and beverages amount to 9%.

Visitor flow distribution varies significantly by format, however; Coffee shops and bakeries primarily attract morning traffic, accounting for 28% of all visits and 34% during lunch hours. These shops are situated in areas more likely to attract visitors due to their convenient locations along commuting routes.

Burger and Chicken Shops are preferred lunch spots, enjoying steady traffic throughout the middle of the day which gradually declines after 6 pm. Conversely, Pizza Chains experience a notable increase in evening traffic, likely a result of parties, and families gathering to share meals together.

Analysis of traffic trends in the fast-food industry is vital for restaurant operators, enabling them to optimize staffing, refine menu offerings, and tailor marketing strategies to leverage peak hours.  Understanding consumer traffic patterns in comparison to key competitors helps operators identify growth opportunities and make informed decisions to enhance operational efficiency.
